Frequently Asked Questions

We think we've covered pretty much everything you need to know about hiring a van with us.
And just for good measure we've included some of the common questions we are asked. However, if you're still left wondering, just pop an email to us or pick up the phone and use the power of your voice to ask us that killer question that remains unanswered.

  • What type of campers do you have for hire?
    Our campers are all original late Westfalias that have been lovingly restored to the highest standards and have retained their original retro look.
  • Can I come and see the campers before I hire one?
    Absolutely. Just give us a call beforehand to arrange a viewing because they might be away on one of their adventures.
  • What are your opening hours?
    We are open from: 09:00 - 17:00 – Monday to Friday 10:00 - 15:00 – Saturdays Closed – Sundays and Bank Holidays
  • Where are you based?
    We are situated on the premises of our sister company, VW Down Under Ltd By Road We are just off the A13 near Basildon and a 20 minute drive from J30/31 of the M25. By Train Nearest train stations are Pitsea and Basildon on the C2C Network The address is: Patricia Drive, Fobbing, Stanford-le-Hope, Essex SS18 9HR
  • How many people can sleep in your vans?
    Our vans will comfortable sleep 2 adults and 2 children under the age of 10.
  • Do you deliver your camper vans to us?
    No, you will need to come and collect your camper. Hand over admin can take up to an hour so please allow some time for this.
  • How do I make a booking?
    You can either call us to enquire about availability and make a booking or use our online booking form.
  • How much is the booking deposit?
    The booking deposit is 33% of the total hire charge (non-refundable).
  • Is driving insurance included?
    Yes, fully comprehensive insurance is included in the price for all named drivers.
  • I have points on my driving licence, can I still hire a van from you?"
    Yes you can, as long as you declare them on the booking form.
  • I have a non-UK driving licence, can I still hire a van from you?"
    Yes, but there will be a surcharge of £5 per day (per driver) to cover the extra insurance costs.
  • Can we leave our own vehicle with you whilst we're away?
    Yes, we have secure customer parking, but all vehicles are parked at the customers' own risk.
  • Can you collect us from the train station?
    Yes, we can collect you from Pitsea or Basildon mainline train stations. This is a special request so please tell us at the time of booking.
  • What are your collection/return times?
    Collections: Fridays between 13:00 - 15:00 Returns: Fridays between 09:00 - 11:00* *If your van hasn't been booked for the next hire period, then a late return option might be possible.
  • What are the age requirements for hiring a van from you?
    Our insurance policy states that drivers must be between the ages of 25 - 70 years old.
  • Can more that one person drive the van whilst we're away?
    Not at the same time! But you are allowed up to a maximum of 3 named drivers per trip.
  • Can we take the camper abroad?
    Unfortunately, our campers aren't allowed to travel outside of mainland UK at the moment, so Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland are also excluded.
  • Are our personal belongings covered by your insurance?
    No, we advise you to arrange personal travel insurance to cover your belongings and cancellations.
  • Are dogs allowed in your campers?
    As a rule we don't allow it, but call us to discuss it because we do occasionally allow some small dogs in our vans.
  • What equipment do we need to bring with us?
    Our vans are fully equipped with pretty much everything you'll need for a camping trip, all you need to bring with you are your personal belongings, towels and bedding (e.g. quilts, pillows, sleeping bags, etc)
  • We're going to a campsite, do we need to book that in advance?"
    All campsites are different and availability depends on many things, including time of year and the weather. Our advice would be to book in advance – turning up to a campsite at full capacity is not going to start your holiday off in the best way!
  • What fuel do we put in the camper vans?
    Our vans run on unleaded petrol.
  • What fuel does the cooker use?
    The 2-ring stove is hooked-up to a gas bottle that will last your entire trip. We do include a spare just in case.
  • Can we take our bicycles with us?
    Yes. We can install a bike rack that will accommodate 4 bikes. Please request this at the time of booking.
  • What are the camper van's dimensions?
    The external dimensions of our vans are: Width: 1.97m Height: 2.12m Length: 4.38m
  • Can the vans take baby/child seats?
    Our vans are fully equipped with seatbelts that will accept the installation of baby/child seats, however, due to the age of the vans, they are not ISOFIX compatible. Call us to discuss your requirements.
  • What do we do if the camper van breaks down?
    Full UK Green Flag Breakdown Cover is included as part of your hiring package. Emergency numbers and information will included in your welcome pack.
  • Is smoking allowed in the camper vans?
    No, all our vans have a non-smoking policy.
  • Do you take late bookings?
    Yes, if we have a van available we are usually able to get it ready for hire at short notice.
